Wild Heart Therapy, PLLC

Mission

Wild Heart Therapy, PLLC, began as a small idea tucked away and grew into a full-fledged dream. Wild Heart Therapy is female-owned and run by an art therapist and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. The practice was established to support adult clients (18 and up) in individual therapy sessions. Wild Heart emphasizes a fighting spirit that encourages you to keep going, even when you would rather stay in bed, even when it feels like the hard feelings will never subside, and even when everything just seems impossible that week. At the root of it all, Wild Heart Therapy is here to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for the challenging, the messy, the joyful, and the empowerment of you.

About Katie

I help clients work through the heavy, ongoing, unexpected mountains. We discuss the thoughts, feelings, and physical symptoms that will not go away on their own and somehow keep showing up during inconvenient times,  convincing you to believe differently about yourself and what you are going through. The weight of it all disrupts your day, week, and month. We discuss unhelpful thought patterns, beliefs, and behaviors, difficulties with interpersonal relationships, challenges with how you see yourself, your physical body, and current circumstances. We explore trauma while also learning how to regulate emotions and be more compassionate with yourself.

In each session, you are exploring and learning to sit with emotions, while uncovering parts of yourself that have not been addressed for years, or perhaps at all. The therapist is a supportive guide to help the client determine their path forward. Additionally, by combining art therapy directives and traditional talk therapy, clients are provided with more than one tool to seek awareness and clarification of their presenting issues and challenges.

I am a graduate of Columbia College Chicago, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Photography. I attended graduate school at Adler University, where I received my Master's in Counseling Psychology: Art Therapy.  My personal interests include documentaries, collecting records, going to yoga, and spending time at the lake in the summer months.

My approaches

I utilize a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy(CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT). CBT offers space to recognize unhelpful thought patterns, feelings, and behaviors, and to learn to recognize when any of these are present and how to challenge, reframe, and refocus them. ACT invites the client to apply these similar aspects, while also learning to identify what they value, determine specific goals, and how they can get there. In addition, the client is guided to incorporate and experience mindfulness practices. Lastly, I utilize Trauma-Informed CBT for trauma processing. Art therapy directives can be incorporated into all of these approaches.
